World Prematurity Day

Yesterday was World Prematurity Day. 1 in 8 babies is born prematurely in the United States and 13 million are born prematurely worldwide every year! Three of them are ours and we are beyond blessed that I had amazing antepartum care in the hospital, outstanding doctors and nurses in the NICU, and such strong support from family and friends. Yes, this gets sappy but I really am blown away everyday that I had three human beings growing inside of me and they are not only doing great they are thriving. Four and a half months ago we brought home our amazing sons and daughter! They were born at 34 weeks and 1 day. They were 6 weeks early and spent a short (but long to us) 15 days in the NICU. They weighed a mere 3 lbs 15oz, 3 lbs 14 oz, and 4lbs. I met so many moms in the hospital that struggled immensely and overcame amazing odds. So, yesterday, was a day to remember all the little ones that made it into this world despite their struggles and all the little ones that didn't make it; their moms and dads, their families, the doctors and nurses that cared for them and everyone whose lives they touched.
