27.1 Weeks--In the hospital
After a fun day (as fun as it can be on bedrest), Mother's Day evening turned into a beast. As I (Todd) was making Kate the most amazing dinner ever, she started to feel something similar to contractions. A call the hospital verified our fears and off we went, with dinner still on the stove and without a proper good bye to Maggie. It quickly became apparent that Kate was having some very regular contractions. The docs did not hesitate with an array of drugs to calm the contractions and let us know that Kate will not be leaving the hospital before the triplets are due. The scary part was that the doctor ordered a steroid to hasten the trips lung development. After a long stressful night that ended around 2AM we finally got a bit of sleep. Today has been yet another long day. The medicine Kate was taking did not seem to calm the contractions down, so the docs and nurses broke out the big gun, Magnesium Sulfate. This medicine is not cool and makes Kate feel a bit weird. Nevertheless, Kate's contractions have slowed a bit. Now all we can do is wait and hope that this calms her uterus and the trips can stay-in for a couple of more weeks. The hardest part is not knowing what is going happen, are the trips going to be delivered today, tomorrow or in four weeks. The health of the three looks great but they will be in even better shape if they stay in for longer. Anyway, we have plenty of time, so expect more updates soon.
